I have blogged earlier about the Occoquan Bay National Wildlife Refuge.  Close to Washington DC in Virginia this place is a little haven for various birds.  I am not much of an ornithologist and therefore know very little about different birds.  I can barely ID most of the birds that I photograph there.  But as i make more visits I am beginning to get a hang of photographing birds and hopefully soon I will start to recognize the birds too.

On a recent trip I found that the refuge is a place where many Ospreys nest.  So I carried my Canon 300/f4 IS USM L lens and decided to give it a shot trying to capture some birds in flight. I think I came close to a nest as this one Osprey appeared to be quite upset with my presence and kept circling me.  Of course, this gave me the opportunity to get some nice pictures.  The entire collection can be seen here:  http://www.ranjanbanerji.com/Photography/default.aspx/Folder/Birds/Osprey

I found it interesting how the Osprey never really took its eyes off me.  Here is one example:

At point the bird flew away and returned with a stick that it tried to drop on me or maybe it slipped from its clutch.  Either way, it appeared that I was not welcome  lol.  After taking a few shots I left so the Osprey could sit in peace.

Definitely a place to go back to and take more pictures.
